All You Need by Lorelei James

All you need4 Stars!

Before getting to the review, can we pause a moment to look at this cover?  Am I the only one who thinks Matt Damon posed as Axl here?

Welcome back Lund family! Annika gets her HEA in the latest book in the Need You series from Lorelei James. Annika Lund is asked to help translate for hockey bad boy Axl Hammerquist and then is manipulated into becoming his fake girlfriend as a PR stunt thanks to her mom and Axl’s publicist.

I love all the hilarious nicknames Annika and Axl have for one another. The romance is as good as it always is in any Lorelei James book, but I will say the build up and culmination of the romance is slower and a little more subdued than in her Rough Rider books. We also meet and get to know some awesome secondary characters that I can only hope leads to future books.

Lorelei James never disappoints and I can’t wait for her next book!

Many thanks to the author for an advanced review copy.

Hang Tough – Lorelei James

Published November 2, 2016 by The Book Momster

hang-toughFive Hot Stars!!

Tobin finally gets his book! Tobin has been around for most of this series. He’s seen as the kid of the group – the Boy Scout, the good guy. He’s tired of that image and ready to use his college degree and move away from Muddy Gap and find a new life. Until one of the Mud Lilies, Miz G, begs him to move in for a few weeks and keep her son from sending her away to a retirement home. Then, her granddaughter, Jade, shows up to spy for daddy. Tobin and Jade do not hit it off, but their banter is fun to read. You can imagine what happens from there.

A really good installment to this series and we meet some characters that I hope get their own book in the future. The chemistry between Tobin and Jade is hot, but it has a nice buildup and you believe in the story and the romance. Tobin reminds me in some ways of Trevor from the Rough Rider series – especially when we meet Tobin’s family.

One thing I am really loving about some of Lorelei’s latest books is that our H/h may face tough choices and decisions, but there’s no rash breakup and quick get back together at the end. She writes conflict in a realistic way and it lends itself to the story and ending being more believable. I love her writing so much and recommend this book to anyone looking to read a good romance.

Many thanks to the author for an ARC of this book.

Review – Just What I Needed by Lorelei James

Published August 2, 2016 by The Book Momster

Just what I needed Four stars for this second book in Lorelei James’ Need You series.  This series is contemporary romance (less erotic than the Rough Riders) and is set in the Twin Cities of Minnesota.  First – if you don’t understand my Rough Riders reference, shame on you and you need to read those ASAP.  Second – if you’ve never visited the Twin Cities I highly recommend it…this southern girl recommends visiting in the summer though.  The winters give cold a whole new meaning.  Either way, the area is beautiful and I love that the series is set there.

Here is the official book blurb:

The second sexy novel in the Need You series, from the New York Times bestselling author of the Mastered Series and the Blacktop Cowboys® Series.
Trinity Carlson might be having the worst day ever. And that was before she started drinking in a dive bar, right across from her ex and his new girlfriend. So when she finally decides enough is enough, she grabs hold of a hot, blond stranger and gives him the kiss of his life.

Walker Lund never expected that a chance at love would hit him right on the mouth. Since the moment his brother decided to settle down, Walker has been dodging his family’s hopes that he’ll do the same.  He’s never been interested in following in anyone’s footsteps. But when he discovers his sexy assailant has given him a fake name and number he suddenly finds himself in the mood for a little hot pursuit…

This book focuses on Walker Lund – part of the crazy rich Lund family, but who works on his own in construction.  Walking in a bar one night leads him to meet Trinity, an artist trying to make an ex jealous.  Trinity and Walker make a great couple.  I love her complete blindness to who Walker’s family is and Walker is the first man she’s been with who can handle her artistic side and all the facets it entails.

I do believe though that Walker’s mom, Selka, steals her scenes in this book. I love her and couldn’t get enough of her.  Her scene near the end with Trinity’s stepmom – priceless!

Lorelei James can write romance.  Period.  End of story.  When people claim there is no better romance than 50 Shades, obviously they have never read a Lorelei James book.   I love her stories so much that she even has me getting over my dislike of alternating first POV.  However, I will not get over the man bun trend – I prefer to just think of Walker with longer hair and ignore his desire for the bun…

I highly recommend this series for romance readers.  This can be read standalone, but the first story in the series focusing on Brady and Lennox is just as fabulous.

Many thanks to the author for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Review – Unbreak My Heart by Lorelei James

Published June 20, 2016 by The Book Momster

unbreak my heart

Rating – 20 stars. Five stars for every year I had to wait…
Four. Years. Let me repeat: Four. Long. Years. That’s how long I have waited for this book. Only one other book have I ever waited impatiently for – that one was a 3 year wait and was it worth it? Nope. Was this book worth the FOUR YEAR WAIT. Yes!! Absolutely! It is one of my favorite reads so far this year. I can’t understand why you are still reading this review and not reading this book.
Here’s the synopsis: BOONE AND SIERRA.
If you read that and have no clue what it means, then follow my suggestion and go read the entire Rough Riders series first. Or at a minimum, you should read Gone Country (book 14). Then once you’ve read that book, say thank goodness I don’t have to wait 4 years to find out what happens to Boone and Sierra. Could you read this book standalone – sure. However, it will mean so much more if you read Gone Country first.  I still suggest the entire Rough Riders series since the books in this series are based on kids of couples from the original series.  These books will have much more meaning.
And now for the official synopsis:
Unbreak My Heart
Rough Riders Legacy book 1
The right love is worth the wait.
Seven years have passed since I fell for Boone West. The brooding bad boy. We were friends, even when I secretly wanted more, but I settled for what he offered. After he left Wyoming—and me—I grew up. Moved on. Or so I believed until he blew back into my life with the scorching force of an Arizona desert wind.
I’m not that innocent sixteen-year-old girl anymore—I’m a businesswoman who swore never to settle again. But this older, wiser, hotter version of Boone unsettles me. How am I supposed to resist his megawatt smile and his built-army-strong body? Especially when he’s inserting himself into every aspect of my life? Now he’s determined to prove he can offer me everything that he couldn’t before—and he’s the only man that can fix the heart that he broke.
Joining the army? Best decision I ever made. Even though it meant I had to leave her behind. Sierra McKay. The wide-eyed beauty, who saw more in me than I saw in myself. I didn’t dare offer her anything more than friendship, because one kiss, one touch and I wouldn’t have had the guts to go.
I’ve worked hard to become the man I am. I have a career. A purpose. After a chance encounter with the one woman I never forgot—I’m not leaving anything else to chance. Now that I’ve chased her across three states, I’m ready to demonstrate that the passion we couldn’t act on before burns hotter than ever between us. And I’ll use every weapon in my arsenal to show Sierra McKay that she’s always been mine.
And that’s all that needs to be said about the story itself. I don’t want to give any of it away. What I will say is why I love it so much. Lorelei is one of the few authors I read who knows how to write a complete story. You walk away very satisfied and you may wish there was more book, but only because you love the characters and story so much. It’s not because she left you hanging or anything unresolved.

The other thing I will say is I’m starting to believe perhaps my dislike of the New Adult genre was because of the books I previously read that were New Adult, not the actually genre itself. Even though it’s being billed as a New Adult book, if you enjoyed the Rough Riders you will enjoy the Rough Riders Legacy – the steam is still there and as hot as ever!
I’m still not a fan of the alternating first POV that the author chose to write this book with. I’d rather it just be written in third person and be done with it. Yet, this book was so well written it didn’t bother me near as much as other books I’ve read that are written that way. The one absolute negative though is every time I read the title, the song of the same name by Toni Braxton runs on an endless loop inside my head. Since I was never a huge fan of that song, you can see my dilemma. Perhaps, I’ll just need to re-read Cowboy Casanova or Cowboy Take Me Away to change the song in my head!
If you’re still reading at this point – Why? Just go buy the book and see for yourself how awesome it is.
And on that note, I will leave you with my absolute favorite line from the book…
“Son, I knew when you left her you had no choice. I also knew you’d be back for her someday. Guess that day is here.”

Book Review – Dare to Love by Carly Phillips

Published November 25, 2013 by The Book Momster

CarlyPhillips_DareToLove_800x1200Rating – 4.5 of 5 stars

Shew!  It’s hard to write a review with one hand while fanning myself with the other!  Carly has said she wanted to go hotter and steamier with this new series and she has definitely achieved that.  Even better though is along with the steam she has created a fantastic new series that had me sucked in from the very beginning.  Ian Dare is the oldest of 8 Dare siblings.  However, 3 of those siblings are half-siblings because it turned out his dad was living a double life with two families. Ian is estranged from his father and has no interest in a relationship with these siblings.  Problematic since our heroine is best friends with his half-brother Alex.  I love the dynamics of the family relationship and how it shapes the man Ian is.  I love how alpha he is, yet willing to admit when he makes mistakes.

Riley hasn’t had a great childhood and that defines her need for independence.  The struggle she and Ian go through to remain true to themselves, but change in ways to strengthen their relationship is very well written.  I not only enjoyed the romance, but also the interactions with all the various Dare siblings. I can’t wait to get to know all of them.  Alex is next and I have to wait to March to read it – what a great birthday present that will make for me!

I loved this book and I think it’s a fantastic start to this new series.
I received an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.

Carly Phillips’ Dare To Love Blog Tour & GIVEAWAY!!!

Published November 25, 2013 by The Book Momster

DTL BannerI’m thrilled that I was chosen to take part in Carly Phillips’ blog tour for Dare To Love.  I am a fan of Carly and I adore her Serendipity series (Perfect Fling is my fave – I would love to win an autographed copy in the contest below!!!), so I jumped at the chance to be a part of this tour and help introduce everyone to the Dare family and her brand new series – her first as an indie author!!

I was given the opportunity to ask Carly a question for the blog tour.  My question to her was simply – Coke or Pepsi?

Her response:  Coke.  I think Pepsi gives me a headache but I can’t say for sure.  If I’m dying for a soda and I order Coke and they ask, Pepsi, I drink it anyway.

I am an avid Coke drinker myself – people who know me are snickering because that’s an understatement.  Coke is pretty much the only thing I drink.  I knew I liked Carly!  Good answer!!

Book Review – Between Now and Forever by Barbara Freethy

Published October 29, 2013 by The Book Momster

????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????Rating – 4 of 5 stars

Continuing the Callaway series, this book focuses on Nicole and Ryan, currently separated after growing apart after their son’s autism diagnosis. After Brandon is kidnapped, they come together to search for him and end up finding their way back to each other as well. A beautifully written story, fans of Barbara’s Angel’s Bay series will be happy to know the search leads them to Angel’s Bay where we get to check in with some old friends.  While this book can be read as a standalone, I think you will appreciate the story more if you’ve read the first three books and seen more of the struggle Nicole and Ryan faced before the beginning of this story.  Also ongoing in this series is a secret between the Callaway grandparents – this book mentions it, but not a lot of forward movement on that storyline.   We also catch up with the couples from the previous books in the series and my only comment is – SPOILER ALERT – couldn’t the epilogue have ended with us at least knowing if Sara and Aiden had a boy or girl??  Sigh – I’m not a patient person so I guess I have to wait to the next book to find out.  Speaking of, this book did a wonderful job of setting up Sean’s story and I enjoyed his part of this book.

Overall, fans of Barbara will not be disappointed with this story.  This book reminded me a lot of my favorite book by Barbara, Daniel’s Gift. I can’t wait for the next book in this series!
